Sorell Veterinary Centre offers high level care for your pet in our purpose-built clinic with convenient parking at the rear of the clinic. Our team is highly trained and continually attend further education courses and conferences.

Our main centre is situated at Sorell, offering consultations 6 days a week and surgery 5 days a week. We are also able to offer away services at Taranna and Swansea, servicing the East Coast of Tasmania and the Tasman Peninsula, as well as a limited after hours service.

We offer a full range of services at Sorell including surgery, dental, blood testing and pathology, X-ray and ultrasound, vaccinations, aged care consultations, routine checks, desexing, weight management, microchipping, euthanasia and a wide range of products to suit a variety of needs. Our vets can also offer home euthanasia (dependent on time availability).

A qualified dog trainer visits the clinic to cover all puppy training needs.

When should you visit

No one knows your pet better than you! Trust your instincts if you think that your pet is unwell.

Some common signs of illness include: diarrhoea, vomiting, not eating, sleepiness and lacking energy. Urgent problems are not limited to but can include choking, swollen tummy, breathing difficulty, seizures or discomfort.

If at any time you are in doubt about your pet it is best to have them assessed even if it is to reassure yourself that they are fine.

Why are other pets being seen before my pet?

What happens if I can’t afford the treatment?

A set consultation fee is there for every pet that the veterinarian examines. This fee can be obtained by calling the centre. At the examination, any further medication, diagnostics or hospitalization of your pet and the fees associated with them will be discussed. Full payment is required at consultation or on discharge.

It is important that you raise any financial concerns with the veterinarian at this appointment so we can offer a suitable plan. We have VetPay available, please ask our staff if you require assistance with your application.

Veterinary treatments – why do they cost so much?

Fees for veterinary treatments appear expensive, especially if you compare to other health care for humans. Human health care is subsidized by government funding, veterinary care is not.

Fees are determined by the cost of keeping highly skilled veterinary surgeons, nurses and other staff to look after your pet. There are also the costs involved in maintaining the centre and its specialized equipment, so we can deal with a wide range of cases in house. These include surgery, laboratory testing, radiology, ultrasounds, oxygen therapy, intensive care, as well as medications and anti-venenes.

Consultations are by appointment only please call 03 6269 2323.

Please arrive on time for your appointment. Clients who are late for any appointment may be asked to reschedule at the doctors discretion.

We would like to thank you for being a client at our centre. Please understand that when we schedule your appointment, we are reserving time for your particular needs with a vet and a nurse. We kindly ask that if you must change an appointment, please give us 24 hours notice. This courtesy makes it possible to give your reserved time to another patient. Except in the case of an emergency you can expect us to run on time.

If you are unable to keep an appointment, we ask you to cancel at least 24 hours in advance. If this is not possible, call us as soon as you can so that another patient can be given your appointment time.

We understand that occasional missed appointments can occur for a variety of reasons. When you miss an appointment without cancelling, someone else who could have been seen in your place is delayed unnecessarily.

We track missed (non-cancelled) appointments.

Repeated missed appointments may result in your discharge from the centre.
